Data Tags
A Data Tag in NileDesk is a numeric tag that allows you to display important aggregated data directly on your Charts or Overview tab within a template dashboard. Data Tags provide a quick and convenient way to track key business metrics without needing to open detailed reports or charts.
They work by applying aggregation functions (such as Sum, Min, Max, Count, or Average) to a specific field in your template, then displaying the calculated value in a clean, readable format.
Why Use Data Tags?
Data Tags are especially useful for displaying at-a-glance KPIs (Key Performance Indicators). For example:
- Sales Tracking: Show total sales for the current month.
- Support Insights: Display the average resolution time of tickets.
- Task Monitoring: Count the number of active or pending tasks.
- Financial Metrics: Track maximum order value or minimum expense logged.
Instead of navigating into complex reports, these metrics are always visible on your dashboard.
Example: Displaying Monthly Sales
Suppose you want to display total sales for the current month on your Overview page:
- Select the “Total Amount” field.
- Apply the Sum aggregation type.
- Add a filter for the current month (e.g., Submitted At greater than This_Month()).
- Add a prefix (e.g.,

) to indicate currency. - Name the Data Tag “This Month’s Sales.”
Every time you visit the Overview page, the system will calculate and display the current total sales for the month.
How to Create a Data Tag
Follow these steps to create a new Data Tag:
- Navigate to the Charts or Overview tab of your template dashboard.
- Click “Create Data Tag.”
- Select the field you want to display (e.g., Total Amount).

Choose an aggregation type:
- Sum – Adds up all values.
- Min – Shows the smallest value.
- Max – Shows the largest value.
- Count – Counts all entries.
- Average (Avg) – Calculates the mean value.
- (Optional) Apply a filter to refine results (e.g., only this month’s records).
- (Optional) Add a prefix (such as

for counts). - Enter a descriptive name for the Data Tag.
- Save it — your Data Tag will now be visible on the Overview tab.
